Brian Setzler, MBA, CPA, has been appointed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to the Sustainability Assurance and Advisory Task Force.
This Task Force will focus on clarifying and elevating the role of CPAs in sustainability reporting and assurance both within and outside the Profession. They will coordinate their work with the Auditing Standards Board Sustainabil
Task Force members include the Sustainability Directors at each of the Big 4 firms along with two other top 10 firm representatives. Brian was selected to represent small firms and small business in this process.
The AICPA is the world’s largest member association representing the accounting profession, with nearly 386,000 members in 128 countries and a 125-year heritage of serving the public interest. AICPA members represent many areas of practice, including business and industry, public practice, government, education and consulting. The AICPA sets ethical standards for the profession and U.S. auditing standards for audits of private companies, nonprofit organizations, federal, state and local governments.

Brian appeared locally on the Lars Larson Show and KPOJ here in Portland. If you saw the President's State of the Union on Tuesday, January 25th, you would have seen Jim Hauser, Hawthorne Auto Clinic Co-owner, sitting in the gallery and getting a shout out from President Obama on how the health care bill will provide a nice tax credit to his business for providing health care to his workers.
TriLibrium was proud to do the tax credit calculation so Jim could give that information to the President.

The luncheon will feature a keynote by Scott Townsend, Google Marketing Manager, an expert in digital strategies. We are pleased to announce that we are expanding our offices. By adding nearly 50 percent more space, our new offices will include a larger client waiting area and more work space. Construction should be complete by year end.

As part of our commitment to the support and promotion of alternative transportation methods, TriLibrium participated in the 2010 Bicycle Commute Challenge through the month of September. All of our staff participated, with a 95% commute rate and over 400 total commuting miles. We placed 2nd among businesses with 2 to 4 members, and Brian, Eric and Jerry have all logged several bike commutes since the end of the official Challenge. Many thanks go to Jerry for his encouragement and leadership through this event.

We completed our 2010 Green House Gas inventory as part of our commitment to reduce our environmental footprint. As a firm, we measured 8.73 metric tons of CO2 emissions. This takes into account our energy consumption including commuting and business mileage. Our commitment is to offset 150% of what we measure. We purchased 13.1 metric tons of carbon offsets from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.

The Business Outreach Program’s missions is to help small businesses, including emerging, minority and women-owned businesses achieve their potential while providing students with community-based learning opportunities.

Jill King has accepted a summer internship with TriLibrium. Jill holds a Bachelor of Arts in Feminist Studies from University of California at Santa Cruz. She is currently working on a post baccalaureate program in accounting. Jill was a union organizer in California, prior to moving to Portland.

Deane Stitt has been hired as a Staff Accountant. Deane will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State University on June 13th, and will start work with us the following day. He is one of the top accounting students at PSU and will graduate Summa Cum Laude. After meeting Brian Setzler through the Oregon Society of CPAs Mentorship Program, Deane did an internship with TriLibrium during the busy season. Brian served as Deane's mentor during his senior year.

TriLibrium has leased office space in the 2100 NE Broadway building and will be taking occupancy by February 1st. The building’s owners are committed to meeting or exceeding LEED standards although it is not certified. We appreciate the convenient location, neighborhood, ample bike parking, building showers, low VOC paint, ground source heat exchanger, responsive landlord & management, proximity to Zipcars and primary bicycle corridors, as well as the open air atrium.

We are pleased to announce that Jerry Catlin, MBA, CPA, has accepted an offer to join the TriLibrium team. Jerry’s official start date is still undecided as he works to wrap up his existing obligations. However, we are very excited to know he’ll join us soon and we look forward to using his skills and passion to serve our expanding client base.
